Simplifying Bird Safety

At WindowAlert, we’re always looking for ways to improve your experience and help protect our feathered friends. We’re excited to share that we’ve updated the application and care instructions for our decals to make it easier than ever to ensure bird safety while maintaining the clarity and beauty of your windows.

What’s New in the Instructions?

Our updated guide focuses on three key steps: Prepare, Apply, and Maintain. Each step is designed to streamline the process and ensure maximum effectiveness of your decals. Here’s a quick look at the updates:

Step 1: Prepare

Proper preparation is the foundation of effective decal application. We’ve emphasized a few key tips:

  • Decals must be applied to clean, exterior glass surfaces free of overlays or coatings.
  • Use only warm water or gentle cleaners to remove dirt—harsh chemicals can interfere with the decals' adhesion.
  • Application works best when the glass and decals are warm (above 50°F/10°C). For colder months, pre-warm the glass with warm water.
  •

    Step 2: Apply

Spacing matters! Our updated spacing guide helps you maximize bird safety:

  • Start applying decals at the center of the glass and work outward.
  • Use our helpful envelope ruler to guide proper placement.
  • Follow the spacing recommendations:
    • Good: 20 inches apart for basic protection.
    • Better: 10 inches apart for improved coverage.
    • Best: 4" horizontal by 2" vertical matrix, based on scientific studies, for the ultimate bird safety.
  •
The more decals you use, the greater the protection you’ll provide.

    Step 3: Maintain

To ensure the decals remain effective over time, maintenance is key:

  • Replace decals every 4 months or when the UV coating begins to fade.
  • Use the WindowAlert UV Flashlight to check the decals’ visibility to birds.
  • Keep in mind that sun exposure and elevation can affect the UV coating's longevity.
